On November 9, 2025, ancient Samarkand once again reaffirmed its status as the pearl of the East. The Samarkand Marathon is not just a sports competition, but a unique cultural experience that allows participants to connect with the great legacy of the Silk Road.

This year, the event reached a truly grand scale, with nearly 9,000 people at the starting line. Traditionally, the event is hugely popular among runners from Russia and CIS countries, who are drawn by the combination of local color, hospitality, and perfect autumn weather.

&nbsp;

Special attention on this day was focused on the participants of the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs (TAN) series. 84 marathoners from the alliance, continuing their journey through the Turkic world, took to the start in Samarkand.

&nbsp;

For many of them, this race became the culmination of the season. 22 athletes officially completed the 2025 TAN series right here in Samarkand. These athletes successfully overcame the required stages in different countries of the Alliance and will now become recipients of the unique series finisher medal &mdash; a symbol of the resilience and unity of the Turkic peoples.

The start-finish area was located in the very heart of the city, next to the majestic Registan Square. Athletes were greeted by an ensemble of three legendary madrasas: Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor, and Tilya-Kori.

The route for the various distances (42.2 km, 21.1 km, 10 km, 5 km, 2 km, and Nordic walking) wound through the streets of the old city. Participants ran against a backdrop of ancient mosques, turquoise domes, and historical monuments, turning the competition into an exciting tour on the run.

The Samarkand Marathon maintains its important charitable mission. All funds raised at the 2025 event will be directed toward creating an inclusive environment in cultural facilities. The goal of the fundraiser is to purchase special equipment to adapt museums for visually impaired and blind visitors, ensuring that art and history are accessible to everyone.

Samarkand Marathon 2025

On October 26, the fourth Turkistan Marathon took place. 3,000 participants ran through the streets of the spiritual capital of the Turkic world. This year, 365 foreigners joined the marathon. This is more than 12% of the total number of participants.

&nbsp;

The majority of the runners came from the cities of Kazakhstan (2,094). Among them was the oldest participant from Shchuchinsk &mdash; 91-year-old Salikha Zigangerova.

&nbsp;

The top countries by representation included neighboring Kyrgyzstan (147), Uzbekistan (109), and Russia (72). The marathon was also attended by runners from the Asia-Pacific region (12), Europe (16), North and Latin America (4), Africa (3), and the Middle East (2).

&nbsp;

Participants ran distances of 42.2 km, 21.1 km, 10 km, 10 km Nordic walking, and 3 km (for children aged 10&ndash;14). The results are internationally recognized through certifications from World Athletics and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

This year, athletes from Uzbekistan set three major course records at once. Andrey Petrov finished the marathon distance in 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 58 seconds. Among women, the 42.2 km course record was set by Ekaterina Tunguskova (2 hours, 40 minutes, and 45 seconds). Alisher Akhmataliyev ran 10 km in 30 minutes and 31 seconds.

At the beginning of the year, the Turkistan Marathon joined the first Turkic series of long-distance races, the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs (TAN). 35 marathoners of the alliance ran the marathon and are continuing their running journey across the Turkic world. Upon finishing 5 TAN races, they will receive a unique medal and memories to last a lifetime.

Baku Marathon 2025

On September 29, Almaty once again became a focal point for the global running community. The fourteenth Almaty Marathon reaffirmed its status as a vibrant sporting celebration, providing participants and spectators alike with new records and unforgettable emotions.

A total of 16,149 runners from all over the world took to the start line. The scale of the event is underscored by the geography of its participants: 1,363 international athletes from 60 countries joined the marathon. Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and China led the way in terms of the number of representatives. This marked an all-time record for the number of international guests in the history of the Almaty Marathon.

Participants of the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs (TAN) series held a special place in the starting protocol, with 54 of the alliance&#39;s marathoners taking to the Almaty Marathon course.

&nbsp;

For these athletes, participating in the Almaty race is not just a competition, but a continuation of a grand running journey across the Turkic world. Each finish brings them closer to receiving a unique commemorative series medal, which symbolizes the unity, sporting spirit, and cultural community of our countries. The Almaty Marathon served as an important milestone for them, allowing them to challenge themselves on one of the most picturesque courses in the region.

Another record was set on the main distance: 1,500 athletes completed the full 42.2 km marathon. The strongest athletes claimed the podium spots, etching their names into the race&#39;s history:

Almaty Marathon 2025

The Baku Marathon 2026 took place on May 3 in Baku, held under the traditional motto &quot;Wind, catch up!&quot; For the first time in the event&#39;s history, a classic 42.2 km marathon distance was included in the program. This large-scale sporting event united nearly 25,000 participants, including over 170 representatives from the TAN series from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.

&nbsp;

The race began at the State Flag Square, and the scenic finish line was located on the Caspian Sea coast, at the Sea Breeze complex.

&nbsp;

Following the marathon, 11 athletes from the TAN alliance officially completed the series, becoming recipients of the unique series finisher medal.

&nbsp;

As the marathon organizers note, projects like TAN contribute to the growth of international interest in Central Asia and the development of running tourism in the region. Already in 2025, the series&#39; marathons demonstrated record-breaking numbers of international participants.

&nbsp;

So, the Almaty Marathon brought together over 16,000 participants, including nearly 1,400 international athletes from 60 countries. The Turkistan Marathon united 3,000 participants, with 365 international athletes from over 20 countries. The race in Kyrgyzstan attracted 5,000 runners from 32 countries, and in Uzbekistan, 10,000 participants took part in the marathon, including 1,488 international athletes from 53 countries.

To become part of the TAN series, participants must complete the marathons included in the project. There are no time limits for completing the series.&nbsp;

Baku Marathon 2026

Bishkek hosted the international charity race, the Bishkek Snow Leopard Run 2025. The event, which has already become a traditional and significant part of the Central Asian sporting calendar, united thousands of runners with a shared mission: to support efforts to preserve the snow leopard, the national symbol of the country.

This year, 4,800 runners took to the starting lines of various distances. The geography of the participants was impressive, with flags from 30 nations adorning the race village, demonstrating the growing international interest in this event. Athletes competed in the half marathon (21.1 km), as well as the 14 km, 5 km, and children&rsquo;s races, with routes winding through the central streets of Bishkek.

The race held special significance in the context of developing Turkic sports cooperation. The Bishkek Snow Leopard Run is a vital stage of the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs (TAN) series &mdash; an alliance designed to unite Turkic peoples through sports and promote a healthy lifestyle.

45 runners participating in the TAN series took part in the race. These athletes are continuing their sporting journey across the cities of the Turkic world, collecting unique medals and strengthening friendly ties between our countries. Their participation underscores commitment to the Alliance&#39;s goals: integration, cultural exchange, and raising the standard of sporting events in the region.

The Snow Leopard Run is not just a competition against the clock. A significant portion of the funds raised from entry fees is traditionally directed toward environmental projects dedicated to the protection and preservation of the snow leopard population in Kyrgyzstan. Every runner&#39;s participation served as a direct contribution to protecting the unique nature of the Tian Shan mountains.

The high level of organization, the energy of the spectators, and the festive atmosphere made the Bishkek Snow Leopard Run 2025 a memorable event, confirming its status as an important node on the map of the Turkic Alliance of Long Runs routes.
